Crew Create Unique Façade
A new look for Voyageur Mall
Atikokan’s newest mural was officially unveiling at the Voyageur Mall on Saturday November 12. The mural covers a space of 124 feet wide and 14 feet high. That’s 1750 square feet. The project was actually started last February when Elizabeth MacKay encouraged the Mall Merchants to do something special with their buildings exterior. Working with the Art Centre the merchants applied for funding through the Ontario Arts Council to turn the wall into a mural. The goal was to have something unique, something distinct that was totally Atikokan that depicted what we do everyday in Atikokan.
Alanna Marohnic envisioned a mural with a three dimensional effect the canoeist, the insect, framed images showing the four seasons, the sun and the trees incorporated into the entrance. Once the work started 20 youngsters were involved at various points in the project most of them bringing the fish to colorful life.
